Apparently where I am destined to stay each time I visit Madrid. Back in 2007 I lived for 3 months in an apartment on Valverde 32; this time I am in an apartment I'm renting on Valverde 46. In both cases, the apartment in question is on the 4th floor; this time, however, there is no elevator in the building.
This time I am only one door down from "The Quiet Man" bar, which - despite, or perhaps because of, the requisite John Wayne paraphernalia - remains just as creepy as I remember it, with a clientele that seems just a little too close to the transgendered hooker category for comfort.
The joys of big city living. Not that we don't have transgendered hooker bars in San Francisco; I'm sure they are a dime a dozen. It's just that I couldn't really tell you their exact location.
