  • A tribe of the natural order Compositœ, of which the genus Cynara is the type, distinguished by having the anthers conspicuously caudate, the flowers all hermaphrodite with tubular corollas and setose pappus, and the leaves usually prickly. The largest genera are Cnicus and Centaurea. Also Cynaraceæ. See Cynara.
