Literally 'game of the envelopes', it is a kind of secret auction. A gioco delle buste is invoked when there is a tug-of-war over a player because the clubs involved are unable to agree on a fee. Each club puts a bid in a sealed envelope and passes it to a third party. The envelopes are opened and the highest bid gets the player.
