  • In Lindley's system of classification of plants, a suborder of the Fucaceæ, having the fronds polysiphonous, barked, jointed, or continuous, and the vesicles scattered over the surface of the frond or collected into heaps. It embraces the Sphacelarieæ, Laminarieæ, and Sporochnideœ.
