  • A suffix forming New Latin names of subfamilies of animals, being properly adjectives in the feminine plural, with bestiæ (beasts) understood, as in Felinæ, Caninæ, etc. The family names end in -idæ.
  • A terminal combining-form in botanical classification, chiefly in Engler's system, denoting groups with the rank of subtribes.
