  • noun An instrument devised by Pender and Cremieu for the determination of very weak magnetic fields. It consists essentially of a horizontal bar carrying a vertical bar-magnet at one end and suspended by a torsion-fiber. A field of 0.00001 c. g. s. unit gives a large deflection.
