  • By looking at recently diverged taxa among North American passerine clades (including grackles, tits, parulids, thrashers and icterids), Klicka & Zink (1997) found that genetic divergence rates actually indicated splits rather older than they’d need to be to satisfy the LPO model: on average, the data suggested Late Pliocene divergence times occurring at about 2.5 million years ago.
