• A family of starfishes, of the order Phanerozonia, which have the body generally pentagonal, the arms short, ambulacral plates opposite, large marginal plates, and tessellate abactinal skeleton. It includes more than 20 genera, among which are Pentagonaster, Chitonaster, Comptonia, and Odontaster.
