  • A tribe of monocotyledonous plants of the order Araceæ and the subfamily Philodendroideæ, distinguished by their habit as erect sympodial shrubs, often branching or climbing, by their orthotropous or anatropous and often longstalked ovules, and by the rudimentary stamens sometimes present in the pistillate flowers. It includes 9 genera, all tropical, of which Philodendron is the type.
