  • The leading subfamily of Phocidæ proper, typified by the genus Phoca, having normally six upper and four lower incisors, and narrow nasal and intermaxillary bones. The genera besides Phoca are Pagomys, Pagophilus, Erignathus, Halichœrus, and Monachus.
