  • A peculiar order of apetalous plants of little-known affinity, characterized by the ovary of two or three cells, with numerous ovules in each cell, and by the aquatic habit, with creeping or expanded disks in place of roots, united to stones under water, from which arise stems with small leaves like mosses, or fronds resembling algæ.
