  • noun A kiln of the Hoffman type, which is built in a circle around a central stack. The burning-chamber thus forms an annular tunnel. It belongs to a comparatively numerous group of continuous-burning kilns, and is used for burning bricks and other varieties of clay ware, and even lime and cement.
