  • An order of polypetalous plants, of the cohort Sapindales, long classed as a suborder of the Sapindaceæ, from which it is distinguished by its regular bisexual flowers with the five stamens inserted outside of the base of the disk, by albuminous and sometimes arillate seeds with a straight embryo, and by opposite simple or compound leaves.
