As we ambled through the flea market in San Telmo, Paddy and I discussed the desirability of having a quest during any given trip away from home. We decided that a reasonable quest theme for this trip to Buenos Aires would be matchboxes, which have the advantage of being ubiquitous, moderately interesting, and a good subject for the construction of photographic dioramas on those loooong Sunday evenings in a foreign capital. Though perhaps lacking the glamour of pooping animals, I humbly offer a link to Sunday night diorama #1

But ... what? I've seen the photographic testimony. Are you saying you lucked out on continent matchboxes? What are the chances of that?!
Really, you know I was hoping for a wind-up gurgurshaa heaving marzipan fewmets across the pampas for under ten dollars.

Sadly, I find that, as one grows older, one has to settle for diminished expectations.
Would it help if I pointed out that several of the matchboxes in question also double as nifty refrigerator magnets?
