  • In De Candolle's system of classification (1818), a name given to that division of the vegetable kingdom more usually called Phanerogamia or Phænogamia, including also the Pteridophyta, or ferns and their allies, and so named from the presence of vascular tissue, which is wanting in all lower cryptogams.
