  • noun In ancient architecture, a continuous frieze, unbroken by triglyphs, carved in relief with figures of men and animals, as the Panathenaic frieze of the Parthenon, or the frieze of Phigaleia. Also zophorus. See cuts under Doric and Hellenic.
