Catfishing is a social media term that has been coined by a documentary show about subjects who run false social networking profiles with fraudulent or deceptive motives. According to the terms and conditions of some social media websites catfishing is illegal. This presentation will cover the basics of what catfishing is, where it originated, and problems that surround it. It will briefly investigate why people desire to be anonymous online, some of the pro’s and con’s to anonymy online, and what social media apps today do and do not allow for this type of activity.
