  • noun A family of dicotyledonous choripetalous plants, of the order Myrtales, typified by the genus Œnothera: the evening-primrose family. It is the same as the Onagraceæ of Dumortier, still used by most authors, although Onagra, upon which the name is based, has no systematic standing. See Onagracæ and Œnothera.
