- noun A family of dicotyledonous choripetalous plants, of the order Myrtales, typified by the genus Œnothera: the evening-primrose family. It is the same as the Onagraceæ of Dumortier, still used by most authors, although Onagra, upon which the name is based, has no systematic standing. See
