Grenoble (Arpitan: Grenoblo) is a city in south-eastern France situated at the foot of the French Alps where the Drac joins the Isère River.
The alternative name, Arpitan (from Arpes 'Alps'), has been promoted by cultural activists since the 1970s but scholars are reluctant to use it.
