The Epilogue indicates that Balsa is going back to Kanbal [which will be the main story of the 2nd book, Guardian of the Darkness (Yami no Moribito), which I'll also write a review/summary of].

Although Chagum was quiet most of the time on this one, we get to see that Balsa is training him to be a stronger person by asking him to help around with the chores, like hunting and preparing stuff that they will need over winter.
