I have tried to convert MKV files to any working form to play in my PS3 with no luck. tsmuxer (1.10.6) with "Bluray" disc selected and "AVCHD" selected, Used nero, with same results. also tried mvk2vob with same results.

Ran Bluray release probably should have been put into the body of the post, notably because this is NOT a Criterion release.

Same goes for the Movie industry if DVDs movies where $2 USD and Bluray movies $9.95 USD and they continued to lower the price on Bluray movies over the next ten years until they are $2 and by then make DVDs movies cost less than $1 each or $2 for a triple packs they would make money as heaps more people would buy them legitimately hence they would make money

The initial DVD transfers were likely 1080p, so in theory all you have to do is take those assets and format 'em according to Bluray standards.
