Interesting to see different tastes displayed here - I happened to * like* Dream Park and Planet of the Apes (or Monkey Planet) by Boulle, and absolutely LOVED The Number of the Beast when it came out (I was 15 and had read every other Heinlein book at that point, which is kind of a prerequisite to enjoy Beast.)
