In my mind there is no sense rescuing something that is bound to fail again in any case, and that something which is bound to fail is American unionism in its present form, with or without government assistance, because it will end up killing American industry, as UAW doubtlessly has assisted in doing (I am not interested in laying the blame here, but I think it is beyond question that the UAW arrangements with Detroit had a role to play in its eventual failure; even Democrats recognise the need for it to make concessions) Featherbedding must be eliminated and expeditiously so.
