MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay—Argentina's deputy foreign commerce secretary, Ivan Heyn, was found dead in a hotel room in Uruguay's capital Tuesday in an apparent suicide.

A spokesman for Uruguay's government said Heyn hanged himself.

Mr. Heyn, who held a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Buenos Aires, represented the government on the board of directors of aluminium company Aluar Aluminio Argentino, according to a statement on presidency's website.

Mr. Heyn, 33, had joined Argentina's delegation at a two-day summit of the South American customs union known as Mercosur.
