One explanation is that free speech laws in the US prevent a sort of hypersensitivity and a feeling of unequal treatment that fueled the Jyllands-Posten riots.

What I find interesting in this sort of thing is that, when we look at the Jyllands-Posten issue, we have had plenty of hate speech directed at Muslims in the US as well and have not seen parallel impacts.
