- noun An East Indian dyestuff consisting of a powdery substance which invests the pods of the euphorbiaceous tree Mallotus Philippinensis (Rottlera tinctoria). It yields a rich orange color, which is imparted almost exclusively to silk. It is also an effective vermifuge.
