Several other species restricted to Tasmania and Bass Strait Islands also occur here, including the green rosella (Platycercus caledonicus), brown scrubwren (Sericornis humilis), and yellow-throated honeyeater (Lichenostomus flavicollis).

These include northern logrunner or chowchilla Orthonyx spaldingii, little treecreeper Climacteris minor, Atherton scrubwren Sericornis keri, Australian fernwren Crateroscelis gutturalis, mountain thornbill Acanthiza katherina, bridled honeyeater Lichenostomus frenatus, Bower's shrike-thrush Colluricincla megarhyncha, tooth-billed catbird Ailuroedus dentirostris and golden bowerbird Prionodura newtoniana.

Given the abundance of nectar-producing plants, it is not surprising that among birds honeyeaters (Meliphagidae) are highly speciated, particularly Lichenostomus and Meliphaga spp.

A pretty little green bird called a greenie or chickowee used to be officially Meliphaga and is now Lichenostomus, and three species of Australian magpies, because they were found to interbreed, are now one species with the old specific names retained as varietal names, so that South Australia's emblem, the white-backed magpie, maggie to his friends, is in full dress Gymnorhina tibicens hypoleuca.
