Reinforcing this suggestion is the fact that Armstrong, when he moved his family to a farm in Lebanon, Ohio, after leaving NASA in 1971, named his farm Rivendell, which is the name of the idyllic secluded valley of Tolkien’s fictional Middle Earth in Lord of the Rings and the abode “the last homely house” of noble Elrond, who is half elf and half human.
Afterward they trooped into a near-empty movie theater on West Houston Street, where there happened to be a retrospective screening of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
