Ignoring the focus of ward funds on neighborhood infrastructure and the timing of the funds so close to an election, Mervine is giving five "grants" and attending ceremonies to "present" the money to the PTA's that otherwise are not funded by taxpayers or school districts.

Finance committee members Alderman Robert O'Connor, Alderman Leroy Keith and Alderman Abby Schuler, all voted to approve the wild spending by Mervine, which has no accountability of how the funds are spent.

Mervine, who has been under criticism for donating $29,000 of taxpayer funds to various PTA's preceding the election, has not really voiced much of anything during his brief interim tenure on city council other than he's lived in Aurora and was paid by the City of Aurora to work on things like the Midwest Literary Festival, which did not succeed.

The local fishwrap (aka "Beacon-News") apparently saw our recent story about how many Aurora City Council members have been using taxpayer ward funds as their own slush funds to waste on everything from donating $29,000 to PTA's just before an election (8th Ward Alderman Rick Mervine) to giving people $50,000 of fences and landscaping (2nd Ward Alderman Juany Garza) to promoting their own ward with $14,000 in television commercials (3rd Ward Alderman Stephanie Kifowit).
