It is fairly easy to get to the CIITEV station where you get the FMT and vehicle permit in Nuevo Laredo coming from the South.

You would have to go with your friend to the US, he can stay in Nuevo Laredo while you go to Laredo drive to Nuevo Laredo, before importing it sell it to your friend and let him handle the importation and so on ..

The first year we got our car permit in Nuevo Laredo, and they took the letter along with the other docs, but didn't seem to give it more than a cursory look, certainly no verification.

Tried @ the border crossing in Nuevo Progresso and they would not take the FMT said I had to have the paperwork showing I returned with my car.
