Hypnea musciformis is used as a vermifuge; Palmaria palmata is also used as a vermifuge; Dictyopteris polypodioides is used for the cure of lung diseases; and Laminaria digitata was, in 1682, introduced by Dr. C.F. Sloan, for use as a cervical dilator, to facilitate baby delivery (Chapman and Chapman, 1980; Hale and Pion, 1972).
