Once we finally plough Pokorny's root into the mire where it belongs, his posthumous 'penis' can't get in the way of a more credible Tyrrhenian root for 'goat', backed up by Hesychius' own admission which Pokorny appears to have dismissed too eagerly as erroneous hearsay in a presumed classical age of ignorance perhaps.

Pokorny, why don't we try something else that doesn't require as many suppositions?

Pokorny takes it back to a hypothetical Proto-Germanic *aluth and claims a lost IE root stem that only survived in the Germanic tongues, While I usually never argue with Pokorny, one instance in one branch does not allow us to assume an PIE root for a word.

I can only find reflexes for Avestan and Greek in Pokorny as *məḱ- mas- and makrós, respectively.
