We arrived in Rurrenabaque late at night, after 13 hours on the road from La Paz.

In my last entry, David and I had just crossed the border into Bolivia, survived the 'world's most dangerous road' and were en route to a small town called Rurrenabaque in the Amazon basin.

From there, we had an express taxi ready to drive us the few hundred kilometers north (and 13,000 feet down) to Rurrenabaque, up in Beni.

For another week I followed various leads until finally, on a Sunday, I found it growing outside a Tacana Indian village some fifty miles into the forest from Rurrenabaque.

After a month in the forest I traveled by dugout canoe five days down the Maniqui to the outpost of San Borja, where I hired a small plane to fly to Rurrenabaque, a settlement on the Río Beni.
