I came up with the idea of getting sperm from the breeder in Israel and having Sephira give birth to our next puppy, along with several other purebred Canaans we would find excellent homes for.

I recently brushed Sephira on the porch and watched the wind cause the hair to snow, strands of which will no doubt end up as part of some nest in the surrounding trees.

Turns out, certainly in our case with as much property as we have – 6 acres – the purpose of a walk is exercise, not toileting; apparently by encouraging Shem and Sephira to decorate the neighboring countryside, we have accelerated their territory expansion and thus, need for dogged protection.

Sephira, our wonderbitch, wenchface extraordinaire, has really settled down since our boy Shem died last summer.

Shem was definitely a character. a bold and beautiful spirit, and I will miss his attempting to take over under my desk, eating kleenexes and napkins, distracting Sephira so he could have all the attention, and plopping his head on our laps when he just wanted to look up at us.

He nipped my foot through my shoe and although Sephira immediately went after him to keep him away from screaming me, he had continued to approach me and I had to throw a chair in his way.

Perhaps that is why he was on edge, perhaps something else affected him – Sephira was still protecting me from him, but when I accidentally stepped on him as he slept under the table, he jumped up and bit me again – on my knee.
