I'm not sure I agree with him putting MMOs in the same category, since they almost always have an existing set of canonical lore (I say this with a deferential nod to exception that was the ambitious, atrocious Shadowbane for those old enough to remember) but it'd be an interesting concept to discuss.

I used to play Shadowbane til the gameworld seemed to break down altogether.

I see a point in the near future of too many games chasing too few players, a bursting bubble and the vast majority of MMOs following in the footsteps of Shadowbane and AC2 instead of WoW.

I don't know -- I think Star Wars Galaxies had some of it, Shadowbane did too, but WoW is flatter than those in many ways.
