Birds found here and in only few other places include white-bellied seedeaters Sporophila leucoptera, grassland yellow-finches Sicalis luteola, chalk-browed mockingbirds Mimus saturninus, tropical peewees Contopus cinereus, rufous-throated antbirds Gymnopithys rufigula, black-breasted puffbirds Notharchus pectoralis, and plain-bellied emeralds Amazilia leucogaster.

Distinctive and restricted range species include Sechura fox (Pseudalopex sechurae), Roedinger's lance head (Bothrops roedingeri), Pizarrita slenderbilled finch Xenospingus concolor, Raimond's Yellow-Finch (Sicalis raimondii), Eugenia ferreyrae, Nolana weissiana, Quinchamalium lomae, Monnina arenicola.

There are, however, some endemics, for example the creamy-rumped miner Geositta isabellina and the greater yellowfinch Sicalis auriventris.

A variety of endemic birds are present in this region, including Bolivian Recurvebill (Simoxenops striatus), Bolivian Blackbird (Oreopsar bolivianus), and a number of finches including Citron-headed Yellow Finch (Sicalis luteocephala) and Warbling Finches (Poospiza garleppi and P. boliviana).

Endemic birds found in this ecoregion include the endangered Cochabamba mountain-finch (Poospiza garleppi); the maquis canastero (Asthenes heterura), rufous-bellied saltator (Saltator rufiventris), and chesnut canastero (Asthenes steinbachi) classified as vulnerable; the wedge-tailed hillstar (Oreotrochilus adela) and Tucuman mountain-finch (Poospiza baeri), classified as near threatened; and the citron-headed yellow-finch (Sicalis luteocephala) and bare-eyed ground-dove (Metriopelia morenoi), classified as a species of least concern.

Among birds, we can mention the lesser rhea (Pterocnemia pennata), Patagonian tinamou (Tinamotis ingoufi), grey eagle-buzzard (Geranoaetus melanoleucus), peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), band-winged nightjar (Caprimulgus longirostris), lesser canastero (Asthenes pyrrholeuca), Patagonia mockingbird (Mimus patagónicus), Patagonian yellow-finch (Sicalis lebruni) just to name a few.

There are numerous birds in the ecoregion, some of them are the Lesser rhea (Pterocnemia pennata), the Patagonian tinamou (Tinamotis ingoufi), the Black-chested buzzard-eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus), the Peregrine (Falco peregrinus), the Band-winged nightjar (Caprimulgus longirostris), the Patagonian mockingbird (Mimus patagónicus), and the Patagonian yellowfinch (Sicalis lebruni).
