For home use ... just use normal virtual machine software (VMWare, VPC, Virtualbox) and get a hot copy of XP and run it for applications that don't work on your Vista or 7 OS.

I compared running XP under Virtualbox inside Ubuntu to XP inside of Vista, for what it's worth XP runs much better under Virtualbox inside Ubuntu, requires less resource and has pseudo 3D support (will be fully supported soon).
