Huo Yuanjia earned historical acclaim when, in the early 20th century, he challenged foreign champions to fight - thereby helping restore national pride during a time when China's sovereignty was under imperialist assault.

I do not mean to imply that Huo Yuanjia wasn't a great fighter, because all accounts suggest that he was a remarkable martial artist; but it's worth pointing out that the vast bulk of Fearless is fanciful rendition of the way things really went down.
