The lofty sugar-maple (_acer saccharinum_) was seen, and lower down the leafy buck-eye (_aesculus flava_) with its pretty orange-flowers, and the shell-bark hickory -- the _juglans alba_ of the botanists.
I also have a red flowering variety, aesculus pavia, and it lost its leaves weeks ago).
And maybe it was the wet spring, but my aesculus parviflora, or bottlebrush buckeye, has a great yellow color now (that’s the bottlebrush with the white flowers.
