  • An order or suborder of Alcyonaria in which the skeleton consists of loose spicules embedded in a well-developed canaliferous cœnenchyma without axial skeletal rod. The group contains the families Xeniidæ, Alcyonidæ, and Nephthyidæ. Nearly equivalent to Alcyoniaceæ.
