  • An Almanac of Words at Play by Willard R. Espy (1975) was one of my first books on words. As a teenager, I learned from Espy about rhopalics and that suoidea has the vowels in reverse alphabetical order.

Espy would have loved Wordie: his entry for August 24 contains m't'g'll'nts'l's'd'a, with eight apostrophes. On October 24 he versifies with names for shore birds. May 21 brings strange units of measurement. Imagine if he were still with us.

  • Wow. You're right, mollusque. The man should have lived to see Wordie. :-)
