  • noun A remarkable genus of plovers, differing from all other birds in having the end of the bill bent sidewise and upward, but otherwise quite like ordinary plovers. A. frontalis, the only species, is a native of New Zealand. Also spelled Anarrhynchus. See cut under plover.
