  • noun A genus of buzzards, of the family Falconidæ, having booted tarsi. A. lagopus, the rough-legged buzzard of Europe and America, is the best-known species. A. sancti-johannis is the black buzzard of America, and A. ferrugineus the western rough-leg or Californian squirrel-hawk.
