Well, there's kind of a true story behind this. I was in Indonesia on an exchange program. Things were going okay, but towards the end of the year a little 'festive spirit' leaked out; uhh, given 32 Australians in a restaurant with alcohol, they possibly got off lightly. The organising committee were unimpressed with the rank debauchery of our Christmas party. For New Year's Eve they kept us on a tight leash, even handing us typed programs before we started. After the speeches, formal dances, prayers, reflections upon the year past, a reading of the five principles of Indonesian philosophy and a toast to the dictator Soeharto at midnight, we were prescribed ten minutes of spontaneity from 12.05 to 12.15. Then they threw us in a bus and took us home.
