- The popular name of several plants, as the double-flowered variety of Lychnis diurna (the red campion), Centaurea nigra (knapweed), but chiefly the double-flowered varieties of Ranunculus aconitifolius (white bachelor's-buttons) and Ranunculus acris (yellow bachelor's-buttons).
- A name for the seeds of Strychnos Nuxvomica, formerly used for poisoning rats.
