It seemed to me like barrel-fermented was the standard at most places.

It smells of passion fruit, and though you'd have to be very discerning to notice that 10% of it is barrel-fermented, the oak adds layers of flavour and gives it a fuller feel in your mouth.

There is an ocean's worth of chardonnay made out here, from steel-fermented wines with crackling acidity all the way to rich, buttery barrel-fermented ones ... and every style in between.

I definitely enjoyed this wine's 10% barrel-fermented sibling, but Croteaux Vineyards '2007 Merlot "3 Clone" Rose ($18) was fermented entirely in oak and aged for 5 months in older oak barrels ... and I just don't' get 'this wine.
