  • noun A tree of British Guiana, Nectandra Rodiæi, natural order Lauraceæ, the timber of which is known to wood-merchants by the name of greenheart, and is largely imported into England for the building of ships and submarine structures, being remarkably hard and durable, and not subject to injury from the ship-worm (Teredo navalis). Its bark contains bebeerin, and is used as a febrifuge.
