  • "Bedroom suit" is a southern US curiosity heard on television commercials, and seen in newspaper adverts and "on sale" cards in furniture store windows. Apparently the concept of "suite" denoting a collection of similar or related items is lost on the speakers.

  • I've sometimes wondered if there is confusion between "suite" and "suit" because "suite" might mean "a fancy room". A "bedroom suite" might mean "a fancy bedroom" to those speakers who refer to a collection of matching beds, dressing tables, dressers, nightstands, etc. as "bedroom suits".
