I have tried federal, brenneke, and a couple others.
Regarding the caliber, Craig Boddington summed it up this way; "A deer hunter in country from fairly thick to fairly open could shoot the following interchangably and neither you nor the deer would ever know the difference: .270 win, .280 rem, 7mm-08 rem, 7x57 mauser, 7x64 brenneke, 308 win, and 30-06 springfield."
I've had god luck with the brenneke slugs in smoothbore guns!!!
My pa shoots 20 ga brenneke slugs out of a smooth bore 870, very accurate at 50 yards and plenty of power, i sighted it in for him this fall and i would be very comfortable shooting it at 75 yards.
Yes | No | Report from buckshot89 wrote 44 weeks 6 days ago in ohio, we have three seasons; shotgun, muzzleloader, and bow. i have put quite a few sluggs through my 870. i do have to say that some slugs will rock a lanky person like me. others its like shooting a .22. but, the buckhammers do hurt at the range. but, ive found that the cheap brenneke ko's have in my opinion the least amount of felt kick with a good deal of knockdown power.
