  • noun The typical genus of the family Byrrhidæ, called pill-beetles from their rounded bodies, and from the way in which they pack their legs out of sight when they are alarmed, simulating death and presenting the appearance of a pill. B. pilula is a typical example. See cut under pill-beetle.
